The Department of Algebra (Katedra algebry) is in charge of most algebraic lectures at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University (MFF UK) as well as at the Faculty of Sciences (PrF UK) and the Faculty of Sports (FTVS UK). The Department is the center of research in the following areas of contemporary algebra: associative algebras and modules, groups and binary systems, lattices and universal algebras. For the main recent results see PREPRINTS.
Every other year, an international conference ”Some Trends in Algebra” (STA) is organized by the Department. The traditional ALGEBRA SEMINAR takes place in lecture room 319 each Monday in term time from 3:30 p.m.
For more details on courses in linear algebra and general algebra (undergraduate level) for students of mathematics, computer science and education at MFF UK see COURSES. More advanced courses are provided in two directions: ”Algebra for Computer Science” and ”Algebra for Science”. There are several POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS working towards their Ph.D. at the Department.
